Near Death Daydream
02:33
|
|||
On a day like any other day
Our heads were in a haze
We'd been there for a decade
As we walked through the woods in the shade
I was feeling pretty faint
That was the day that I left you
My eyes rolled back and my legs gave out
You held my coat as I fell to the ground
I know that day that you saved my life
You called my name and I returned to you
I returned to you
When I left I don't know where I went
Thought my time was all spent
I didn't know if I'd see you again
In the dark
Thought I might have been dreaming
Thought I'd drifted off sleeping
But you were there with me telling me you loved me
When I came back I couldn't feel my hands
You held me close and told me everything was okay
I know that day I got a second chance at life
You called my name and I returned to you
I returned to you

She Belongs To Me
02:22
|
|||
She's trying not to fight him
She's trying not to lie
She's trying not to bring up things like rape and suicide
She's looking for the answer
She's looking for the key
He's looking for somebody but she belongs to me
She tells him "Yes, I'm married"
She asks him for a lift
They ride into the sunset after her last shift
She turns to him halfway across the valley open wide
She tells him, "This was my mistake. I've got nowhere to hide."
She trembles when she sees him on TV
She hears him on the radio
She's got nowhere to go
He slips his arms around her
He looks into her eyes
A hundred lifetimes flicker past
She's got nowhere to hide
Now the truth is open
Naked as the sea
Desire is vast and plentiful but she belongs to me
She belongs
She's mine

Sorrow
03:08
|
|||
People wonder where to go
When they're faced with sorrow
They feel pain and nothing more
That is sorrow
Women are raped in "peace" and "war"
Young men trained to go to war
They learn how to kill but they learn nothing more
That is sorrow
Why do some starve and some thrive?
Why do the selfish get the prize?
Why do we roll people like dice?
Visitors wonder what to do
In a world so cold they can't see the moon
They try to keep watch but there's so much else to do
That is sorrow
I don't know if you're alive
I don't know if you're alive
I can see your blood but I can't feel you tonight
That is sorrow
Why do some starve and some thrive?
Why do the selfish get the prize?
Why do we roll people like dice?

False Creek
03:07
|
|||
Feet in false creek
Eyes on the land
Wind up your ghost
Dip your toes in sand
Another day
You'd have been just fine
Another hoax
Truth behind the lies
Forgive me please
I've lost my head
My body's gone
Got my mind instead
Attached to your bone
Your prior life
They found us all
Washed up in strife
When it comes your time
I will bury you
You were innocent
Head down to your shoes

Dusty Old Soul
02:10
|
|||
Everybody might just be one big soul
Well, it looks that way to me
Everywhere you look in the day or night
That's where I'm gonna be
That's where I'm gonna be, ma
That's where I'm gonna be
People are just bodies
Attached to their minds
Well, it looks that way to me
Everywhere you turn you see hope, death, and strife
That's where I'm gonna be
Whereever little children are hungry and cry
Whereever people ain't free
Whereever men are out fightin' for their rights
That's where I'm gonna be
That's where I'm gonna be, ma
That's where I'm gonna be

Oh My Life
04:24
|
|||
Oh my life
Wondering, waiting for the sky
To open up and take me back up high
High above the place where I died
High above the place where I still lie
Pin somebody down
Get inside their head
I ain't dead yet
You can go anywhere
When you're somebody else
Imitate, assimilate
Take the essence
Leave the frills
No fear
No envy
No meanness
Something in their eyes
Waiting at the crossroads of my life
Wondering, waiting
Wondering, waiting
Wondering, waitin'

Eliza
08:33
|
|||
First heard of Eliza on the second of March
She was on my mind for weeks after that
Her innocence faded, her hair falling down
She was ended before she had a chance to start
This little girl, she travelled the west
Headed down the warm coast and soon needed rest
So she found a hotel and a pillow to lay
Her weary head as she followed her heart
The hotel was quite scary
She wandered the halls
Looking for answers and finding her hands
She did a strange dance as she moved floor to floor
She was pushing my buttons
She was pushing them all
I waited in the shadows and I swallowed hard
As I heard the great moan of the old elevator
I knew no one had paid her
And I'd have to bait her
With the tips of her fingers she pointed to me
Eliza was no one, an unknown at best
Until her name backwards spelled out a test
For a disease so rampant it swallows folks whole
Down on skid row, enjoying the show
I ain't lyin'
Together we walked to the roof as she spoke
And I followed her up to a pool of black water
She smiled at me sweetly as she took off her clothes
And vanished into darkness
Too sad to behold
Well I stood there weeks later on that very same roof
Wondering why only good disappears
Light fades but not darkness
It will always remain
If this candle keeps burnin' I'll be safe for the night
I waited in the shadows
I swallowed hard
I ain't lyin'
We all know Eliza never really existed
But her names me cry when I picture her face
Fear and despair are all part of the system
It's so easy to grieve when you're barely resistin'
I waited in the shadows
I swallowed hard
I ain't lyin'

Light Has Returned
05:05
|
|||
I spent a long time lost in the dark
Tried to find a way out, but never could
I let the claws dig too far inside
I let the ivy grow over my eyes
One day I saw it
A dancing light
It snapped him from his slumber
Began a change
Something inside us forever gone
But in its place grew a new resolve
Now the light has returned
With us now it will stay
Now the light has returned
A new life begins
I spent a long time lost in the dark
I found your hand there, and lead the way
We worked together to untie the knots
Blacked out the old rules
Walked to the sun
Now the light has returned
With us now it will stay
Now the light has returned
A new life begins
A new life begins

Rebirth
04:41
|
|||
I thought I'd never give birth to you
Only in dreams would I talk to you
Thought your daddy would leave me too
Held my fears at arms' length and breathed one lonely sigh
I saw him fall
I heard him break
I watched his spirit leave him and come back again
I cried when I could feel you
I mourned when you were gone
A vision of a bright white spark
Followed me for months
One flying heron
White as an eye
Two ducklings swimming against the tide
I saw him fall
I heard him break
I watched his spirit leave him and come back again
The simplest tiny moments outlast this golden thread
My love for you is endless
His hand on my head
Two lovers seated outside a fox's den
A grunt and flash of rusty fur
We begin again
I saw him fall
I heard him break
I watched his spirit leave him and come back again
